Bayan ya hau kujerarsa a Majalisar Dattawa a watan Yunin shekarar 1999, an nada shi a kwamitocin Zabe, Sabis na Majalisar Dattawa, Asusun Jama’a, Tsaro da kula da Halin birnin Tarayya Abuja. Ya kuma kasance Shugaban Majalisar Dattawa daga Yunin shekarata 1999 zuwa Nuwamba 1999, kuma Shugaban Kwamitin Majalisar Dattawa kan Harkokin Tattalin Arziki daga 2000 zuwa 2003. Ya kasance dan takarar gwamnan jihar Sokoto a jam’iyyar PDP a shekarar 2003. [2] A watan Janairun shekarar 2007 ne Shugaba Olusegun Obasanjo ya nada Wali a matsayin ministan tsare-tsare na kasa, kuma mataimakin shugaban hukumar. Daga baya aka nada shi jakadan kasar Morocco.
