An haifi Hadiza Isma El-Rufa'i a cikin birnin Kano, Najeriya, ga mahaifinta Mohammed Musa Isma tare da uwargidansa Amina Iya Isma.[1] Mahaifinta ma'aikacin gwamnati ne.

Hadiza tayi karatun ta na BSc da MSc a fannin gine-gine a shekara ta alif ɗari tara da tamanin da uku (1983) da kuma MBA a shekara ta alif (1992) duk daga Jami'ar Ahmadu Bello, Zaria, sannan ta sake yin Masters a Rubutun Kirkira (Creative Writing) a shekara ta 2012 daga Jami'ar Bath Spa, United Kingdom.[2]

Daga nan ne, tafara aiki a matsayin malamar jami'an, a sashen koyar da zane-zane (Architecture) a Kaduna Polytechnic, sannan tayi aiki a hukumar wutan lantarki ta ƙasa wato (National Electric Power Authority, NEPA), kafin nan tazama ma'aikaciya mai zaman kanta. El-Rufa'i najin harsuna uku Hausa, Turanci da Faransanci.

A shekara ta alif Ɗari tara da tamanin da biyar (1985), ta auri Malam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai wanda suka haɗu dashi a shekara ta alif ɗari tara da sabain da shida (1976 ) a makarantar share fage wato (School of Basic Studies), na Jami'ar Ahmadu Bello, Zaria.[3] Wanda daga baya yazama Ministan Babban Birnin Tarayya a Najeriya, kuma Gwamnan Jihar Kaduna.

A shekara ta ( 2017), Hadiza Isma El-Rufai ta wallafa littafinta ''An Abundance of Scorpions'' (Ouida Books).[4] littafin nobel ne, wanda tasamu ƙwarin-gwiwa daga aikin data taba yi na sakai a wani gidan marayu dake babban birni Abuja, da kuma Son ta na tayi rubutu akan maraya.[5] An gabatar da littafin a Aké Arts and Book Festival na shekarar (2017).[6]

Helon Habila ya bayyana aikin marubuciyar amatsayin, "wani labari mai ratsa zuciya akan rashi da kuma zaburarwa akan karfin mace da jajircewan ta" wato (a turanci "a heartbreaking tale of loss and an uplifting story of a woman's strength and determination").[7][8]
