Hukumar Kula da Jami’o’i ta Kasa a taƙaice NUC ita ce hukumar gwamnati domin inganta ingantaccen ilimi a Najeriya. Hukumar wacce ke da mazauni a birnin tarayyar Nijeriya Abuja, an kafa ta a shekarar 1962 a matsayin hukumar ba da shawara a ofishin majalisar ministoci.[1] A shekarar 1974, ta zama hukuma ta doka kuma babban sakatarenta na farko shine Farfesa Jibril Aminu.[2] A halin yanzu NUC tana cikin Ma'aikatar Ilimi ta Tarayya kuma ƙungiya ce ta parastatal (kamfanin gwamnati).

Hukumar tana da majalisar gudanarwa, a halin yanzu a karkashin jagorancin Farfesa Shehu Galadanchi da sakataren zartarwa Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, wanda kuma ya fara aiki a ofis a ranar 3 ga Agustan shekarar 2016.[1] Since its establishment, the commission has transformed from a small office in the cabinet office to an important arm of government in the area of development and management of university education in Nigeria.[3] Tun bayan kafa hukumar ta sauya sheka daga karamin ofishita a ofishin majalisar ministoci zuwa wani muhimmin bangaren gwamnati a fannin raya kasa da gudanar da ilimin jami'a a Najeriya.

Hukumar kula da jami’o’i ta kasa ko NUC kamar yadda ake kira a wasu lokutan a Najeriya ta fara aiki a shekarar 1962, biyo bayan matsayin daya daga cikin shawarwarin da Hukumar Ashby ta bayar wanda kuma ya ba da shawarar kirkiro sababbin jami'o'in tarayya.[4] NUC ta fara gudanar da aikinta ne a matsayin hukumar kula da bunkasa ilimin jami’a a Najeriya. A farkon farawa, hukumar ta NUC an ƙirƙira ta ta hanyar zartarwa kuma an sanya ta da farko a ƙarƙashin Ofishin Majalisar.[5][6] Shugaban majagaba shine Sarkin Yauri, Alhaji Tukur wanda Rotimi Williams ya gaje shi. A lokacin kuma da aka fara aiki, aiwatar da manufofin kungiyar ya samu cikas saboda tsarin doka na gidauniyar ta, domin hukumar NUC kungiya ce mai zaman kanta a cikin ofishin majalisar ministocin yayin da ilimin jami’a wannan lokaci ne a jamhuriya ta farko ya kasance cikin jerin gwano. Bayan da sojoji suka hau mulki a shekarar 1966, NUC ta samu ikon gudanar da ayyukan daidaitawa a cikin tsarin jami'o'in tarayya. A cikin 1974, sabuwar doka ta sake fasalin NUC don zama cikakkiyar hukuma wacce Babban Sakatare zai jagoranta.

A karkashin Jubril Aminu a matsayin sakatare, NUC ta kafa ofishin da ke kasashen ketare domin hada kai da daukar ma’aikata a sabbin jami’o’i. Tsakanin 1975 da 1998, NUC ta tsunduma cikin harkokin gudanar da jami'o'i sannu a hankali ya karu, ya zama mai tasiri wajen nada mataimakan shugabannin jami'o'i, mambobin majalissar gudanarwa na jami'o'i tare da gudanar da kafa sabbin malamai da bayar da kwas. A cikin 1985, an ɗora shi tare da ƙarin nauyi don saita mafi ƙarancin ƙa'idodin ilimi da dubawa da bayar da kwas a jami'o'i.[7] A cikin 1999, sabuwar gwamnatin dimokuradiyya ta ba da 'yancin cin gashin kai ga jami'o'in gudanarwar majalisun.[8]

A cikin shekara ta 2002, hukumar ta NUC ta gudanar da bincike mai inganci da inganci da martabar jami'o'in jihohi da na tarayya. Ƙungiyar ta kafa hanyar sadarwa ta lantarki don haɗa ayyukan bincike a cikin jami'o'i da juna.[11]

A ranar 3 ga Fabrairu 2021[12] Hukumar Jami'o'in Najeriya ta amince da karin Jami'o'i masu zaman kansu guda 20 wadanda a yanzu sun sanya jami'o'i masu zaman kansu 99 da aka amince da su a Najeriya, wanda kuma ya hada da Jami'ar Mewar International University da Adhyay International Archived 2023-05-29 at the Wayback Machine ta inganta wanda ya sanya ta zama Jami'ar Indiya ta farko don fadada harabarta zuwa Najeriya a cikin Jihar Nasarawa
