An haifi Kanu a garin Aba da ke jihar Imo, yanzu jihar Abia, kuma ya yi karatu a Najeriya har zuwa shekarar 1985, inda ya koma Texas a kasar Amurka. Ya sauke karatu a shekarar 1990 daga North Garland High School. Bayan haka, ya halarci Kwalejin Richland da ke Dallas, Texas, yana samun takardar shedar karatu a cikin Nazarin Duniya kan Kasuwanci da Ciniki na Duniya da digiri a fannin fasaha.
