Abū Dā'ūd an haife shi a Sijistān, [n 1] kuma ya bar duniya a cikin shekarar 889 a Basra, Iraq. Yawancin malamai sun yi imani da cewa an haife shi a Baluchistan, yanzu wani yanki na Iran da Pakistan, daga baya ya koma Khurāsān. Ya yi yawon shakatawa (hadisai) da yawa daga malamai a Iraki, Masar, Siriya, Hijaz, Tihamah, Nishapur, da Merv a tsakanin sauran wurare. Mayar da hankalinsa ga ḥadīth na shari'a ya taso ne daga wani fifiko a cikin zahiri (shari'a). Tarinsa ya hada da ḥadīth 4,800, aka zaɓa daga wasu 500,000. Hisansa, Abū Bakr 'Abd Allāh ibn Abī Dā'ūd (d. 928/929), sanannen ḥāfiẓ ne kuma marubucin Kitāb al-Masābīh, wanda sanannen ɗalibin shi ne Abū Abd Allāh al-Marzubānī. [2] [3]

Imam Abu Dawud ya kasance mai bin Hanbali duk da cewa wasu sun dauke shi Ba-Shafi'i . [1]

Imam Abu Dawud da kansa ya baiyana cewa: "Daga wannan littafin nawa Hadisai hudu (4) sun isa mutum mai hankali da tunani. Su ne:

  • Wani sashi na kyawawan halayen mutum a Musulunci shine ya bar abin da babu ruwansa.
  • Babu wani daga cikinku da zai iya zama mai imani har sai ya so wa ɗan'uwansa abin da kuke so wa kanku.
  • Abunda aka kyale ( halal ) a bayyane yake, kuma da aka haramta ( haram ) a bayyane yake, tsakanin wadannan biyun akwai lamura masu shakku. Duk wanda ya nisanci wadannan lamuran shakku ya kubutar da addininsa. "
