An haifi Tyoden a ranar 22 ga Satumba, 1950. Ya halarci makarantar Sakandire ta Boys a jihar Filato, Arewacin Najeriya, inda ya sami takardar shaidar makarantar sakandaren Afirka ta Yamma. Daga baya ya wuce zuwa Jami'ar Ibadan inda ya sami Digiri na farko na Kimiyya (B.Sc) a Kimiyyar Siyasa.[3] Ya sami digiri na biyu a fannin kimiya (M.Sc) da kuma digirin digirgir (Ph.D) a kan alakar kasa da kasa da tattalin arzikin siyasa daga jami'ar Lancaster da ke kasar Ingila.[4][5][6]

Tyoden ya fara aikinsa a shekarar 1978, a matsayin Mataimakin Sakatare a Ma’aikatar Kafa Gwamnatin Filato. Daga baya ya zama memba na ma’aikatan ilimi a Jami'ar Jos, inda ya zama cikakken Farfesa a 1990.[7] Bayan Tyoden ya zama Farfesa a 1990, sai aka nada shi, Shugaban Sashen Kimiyyar Siyasa, Jami’ar Abuja[8] Ya koma wurin nasa alma mater, Jami'ar Jos a 2000, kuma ya zama Dean na Faculty of Social Sciences a 2001, mukamin da ya rike har zuwa 2005.[9] An nada shi Mataimakin Shugaban Jami'ar Jos a ranar 12 ga Yulin 2006, matsayin da ya rike har zuwa Yuni 11, 2011. Ya ba da gudummawa sosai ga ci gaban Jami'ar.[10][11] An zabe shi a matsayin Mataimakin Gwamnan Jihar Filato a 2015 a karkashin inuwar jam’iyyar APC.[12][13][14]
