Bayan rasuwar tsohon shugaban mulkin soja kuma tsohon shugaban Najeriya Janar Sani Abacha a shekarar 1998, magajinsa Janar Abdulsalami Abubakar ne ya kaddamar da juyin mulki wanda ya tabbatar da dawowar Najeriya mulkin dimokuradiyya a 1999. A ranar 29 ga Mayun 1999 ne aka rantsar da Obasanjo a matsayin shugaban kasa kuma babban kwamandan Tarayyar Najeriya.

A zaben gama gari mai cike da cece-kuce a ranar 21 ga Afrilun 2007, an zabi Umaru Yar’adua na jam’iyyar PDP a matsayin shugaban kasa.

Bayan rasuwar Umaru Yar'Adua a ranar 5 ga Mayun 2010, Goodluck Jonathan ya zama shugaban kasa na uku (1 na rikon kwarya)[2] daga baya kuma ya ci zabe a shekara mai zuwa wanda aka amince da shi a matsayin mafi yanci da adalci fiye da duk zabukan da suka gabata na jamhuriya ta hudu.[3] Daga nan ne Muhammadu Buhari ya lashe babban zabe a ranar 28 ga Maris 2015 bayan mulkin PDP na shekaru goma sha shida (1999-2015).[4]

A ranar 29 ga watan Mayun 2015 ne aka rantsar da Buhari a matsayin shugaban kasar Najeriya, inda ya zama dan adawa na farko da ya lashe zaben shugaban kasa tun bayan samun ‘yancin kai a 1960.[5] A ranar 29 ga watan Mayun 2019 ne aka rantsar da Muhammadu Buhari a karo na biyu a matsayin shugaban kasar Najeriya, bayan ya lashe zaben shugaban kasa a watan Fabrairun 2019.[6]

Dan takarar jam’iyyar All Progressives Congress (APC) mai mulki, Bola Tinubu, ya lashe zaben shugaban kasa a watan Fabrairun 2023 domin ya gaji Muhammadu Buhari a matsayin shugaban Najeriya na gaba. Sai dai 'yan adawar na da zargin magudin zabe a rumfunan zabe.[7] A ranar 29 ga watan Mayun 2023 aka rantsar da Bola Tinubu a matsayin shugaban kasar Najeriya domin ya gaji Buhari.[8]
