Amponsah ya fito ne daga yankin yammacin Ghana. Ya karanta ilimin lissafi kuma ya sami digirin digirgir a Jami'ar Kimiyya da Fasaha ta Kwame Nkrumah.[3][4]

Amponsah ya kasance memba na majalisar dokoki ta 2 da ta 3 a jamhuriya ta 4 ta Ghana. Shi memba ne na National Democratic Congress kuma wakilin mazabar Mpohor-Wassa ta Gabas na yankin yammacin Ghana. Aikinsa na siyasa ya fara ne lokacin da ya tsaya takara a babban zaɓen Ghana na shekara ta 2000 kuma ya yi nasara akan tikitin jam'iyyar National Democratic Congress A lokacin babban zaben Ghana na 1996, ya samu kuri'u 20,352 daga cikin sahihin kuri'u 38,121 da aka kada wanda ke wakiltar kashi 40.70 cikin 100 a kan abokan hamayyarsa Mary Stella Ankomah, Paul King Arthur da Alex Bessah Dogbeh wadanda suka samu kuri'u 15,288, kuri'u 1,612 da kuri'u 909.[6][7][8][9]

Wadannan sun samu kuri'u 10,454, 6,869, 1,263 da 300 bi da bi daga cikin jimillar kuri'un da aka kada.
