gyara sasheHerbert Macaulay ne ya kafa ta a shekara ta 1923 don cin gajiyar sabon Kundin Tsarin Mulki na Clifford, wanda ya gaji Majalisar Najeriya ta 1914. Jam’iyyar NNDP ta yi nasarar shirya ƙungiyoyin masu ruwa da tsaki a Legas a matsayin ƙungiya ɗaya wacce ta iya yin takara a siyasance. Jam'iyyar (NNDP) ta tsayar da 'yan takara da dama domin neman kujeru a zaɓen shekarar 1922 na majalisar dokokin Legas, inda ta samu kujeru uku. Jam'iyyar ta lashe dukkan kujeru a zaɓukan 1923, 1928 da 1933. Ko da yake, babban aikin jam'iyyar shi ne sanya 'yan takara a cikin majalisar dokoki, tana da babbar manufa ta inganta dimokuradiyya a Najeriya, da kara yawan shiga Najeriya a cikin zamantakewa, tattalin arziki da ci gaban ilimi na Najeriya. Jam’iyyar ta ci gaba da mamaye harkokin siyasa a Legas har zuwa shekarar 1938, lokacin da kungiyar matasan Najeriya (NYM) ta mamaye ta a zaɓe.
Samuel Akintola ne ya karbe sunan jam’iyyar a shekarar 1964 ga jam’iyyarsa a wani mataki na kawar da jam’iyyar Action Group mai ra’ayin riƙau ƙarƙashin jagorancin Obafemi Awolowo daga mulki a yankin Yamma.[1][2]
Daga baya ɗan jam’iyyar Augustus Akinloye ya zama shugaban jam’iyyar ta kasa a shekarar 1978.
