Francis Arinze, (an haife shi 1 ga watan Nuwamba a shekara ta 1932), ɗan Najeriya ne  Cardinal na Cocin Roman Katolika. Ya kasance Shugaban Majalisar don Bautar Allah da Horar da Saurarori daga 2002 zuwa shekarar 2008. Ya kasance Bishop na Cardinal na Velletri-Segni tun shekarar 2005. Arinze na ɗaya daga cikin manyan mashawarta ga Paparoma John Paul na II kuma an ɗauke shi papabile kafin babban taron papal na 2005, wanda ya zaɓi Paparoma Benedict XVI.

An haifi Arinze a Eziowelle, Anambra, Najeriya. Wanda ya tuba daga addinin gargajiya na Afirka,  ya yi masa baftisma a ranar haihuwarsa ta tara (1 ga watan Nuwamba shekarar 1941) ta Uba Michael Tansi, wanda John Paul II ya buge a 1998. Iyayensa daga baya sun koma addinin Katolika.[1][2] A shekaru 15, sai ya shiga All Hallows Seminary da Onitsha daga wanda ya sauke karatu da kuma aikata wani falsafa digiri a 1950. Mahaifinsa da farko yana adawa da shiga makarantar hauza, amma bayan ganin yadda Francis ya ji daɗin hakan, ya ƙarfafa shi. Arinze ya zauna a All Hallows har zuwa 1953 don koyarwa. A cikin 1955, ya tafi Rome don yin karatun tauhidin a Jami'ar Urban Pontifical, inda a ƙarshe ya sami digiri na uku a cikin ilimin tauhidin summa cum laude. A ranar 23 ga Nuwamba 1958, a ɗakin sujada na jami'a, Arinze aka wajabta zuwa aikin firist da Gregorio Pietro Agagianian, pro-prefect na alfarma taron domin Farfagandar na Faith (farfaganda ainihi).[3]

Bayan nada shi, Uba Arinze ya ci gaba da zama a Rome, inda ya sami digiri na biyu a ilimin tauhidi a 1959 da kuma digiri na uku a 1960. Takardar digirinsa kan "Ibo Hadaya a matsayin Gabatarwa ga Catechesis of Holy Mass " shine tushen aikin da ya yi amfani da shi sosai, "Yin hadaya a Addinin Ibo", wanda aka buga a 1970. Daga 1961 zuwa 1962, Arinze ya kasance farfesa na liturgy, dabaru,[4] da falsafar asali a Bigard Memorial Seminary. Daga nan, aka naɗa shi sakataren ilimi na ɗariƙar Katolika na yankin gabashin Najeriya. Daga ƙarshe, an canza Arinze zuwa London, inda ya halarci Cibiyar Ilimi kuma ya kammala a 1964.

Francis Arinze ya zama bishop na Roman Katolika mafi ƙanƙanta a duniya lokacin da aka keɓe shi a ranar 29 ga Agusta 1965, yana ɗan shekara 32. An nada shi babban bishop na Fissiana kuma an sanya masa suna Coadjutor ga Archbishop of Onitsha, Nigeria.[5] Ya halarci zaman ƙarshe na Majalisar Vatican ta Biyu a cikin wannan shekarar. Ya zama Akbishop na Onitsha a ranar 26 ga Yuni 1967. Shi ne ɗan asalin Afirka na farko da ya shugabanci cocinsa, wanda ya gaji Archbishop Charles Heerey, mishan ɗan ƙasar Irish.[6]
