Yankin Tsakiyar-Yamma ya kasance rabon Najeriya daga shekarar 1963, zuwa 1991, daga 1976, ana kiranta da Bendel state.

An kafa shi a watan Yunin 1963, daga Benin da lardunan Delta na Yammacin Yankin, kuma babban birninta shi ne Benin City . An kuma sake canza mata suna zuwa lardi a shekara ta 1966, kuma a shekarar 1967, lokacin da aka raba sauran lardunan zuwa jihohi da yawa, ya ci gaba da kasancewa yanki yanakke, ya zama jiha.

A shekarar 1976, aka sake yiwa jihar suna Bendel . An raba shi zuwa jihar Delta da Edo a cikin 1991. [1][2]

Yankin ya kunshi tsoffin lardunan Benin da Delta. Lardunan Benin suna da masu magana da yaren Edo yayin da lardin Delta ke da Ijaws, Isekiri, Urhobo, Isoko da Ukwuani masu magana ban da Ika da Aniocha.[3]

Yankin yana da katako da masana'antar roba a Sapele wanda shima tashar jiragen ruwa ke tallafawa. Bugu da kari, ta samar da kayayyakin dabino, masara, wake da sauran kayan abinci don amfanin gida. A cikin lardin Kudancin Delta, an kuma gano mai kuma an sanya shi don amfanin yankin.[4]
