Shakshouka šakšūkah, also spelled shakshuka or chakchouka) is a Maghrebi dish of eggs poached in a sauce of tomatoes, olive oil, peppers, onion, and garlic, commonly spiced with cumin, paprika and cayenne pepper. Shakshouka is a popular dish throughout North Africa and the Middle East.

Shakshuka kalma ce don "haɗewa" a cikin Larabci na Aljeriya da "haɗe" a cikin Tunisian Larabci. Oxford English Dictionary ya bayyana shi a matsayin asalin asali da yawa, kalmar Maghribi ta Larabci, mai alaƙa da aikatau shakshaka ma'anar "don kumfa, don yin sizzle, don a gauraya, don a doke shi tare" da kalmar Faransanci Chakchouka, wanda aka aro shi cikin Turanci a karni na sha tara. An aro Chakchouka zuwa Faransanci daga Larabci na Aljeriya.

Gil Marks, yayin da yake lura da wasu kamanceceniya da maza abinci na Ottoman, ya nuna cewa shakshouka ya samo asali ne daga şakşuka wanda ya bazu zuwa Maghreb ta hanyar tasirin Daular Ottoman. The migration of Maghrebi Jews in the 1950s brought the dish to Israel, where it was subsequently widely adopted despite not being previously present in Palestinian or Levantine cuisine. Shakshouka began appearing in Israeli restaurants in the 1990s.[1]

Akwai bambance-bambance da yawa na sauce na asali, ya bambanta da kayan yaji da zaki. Wasu masu dafa abinci suna ƙara lemun tsami, cuku mai gishiri, zaitun, harissa ko sausage mai ɗanɗano kamar Chorizo ko merguez. Ana iya yin wasu bambance-bambance na shakshouka tare da ɗan rago, kayan yaji, yogurt da sabbin ganye. Abubuwan yaji na iya haɗawa da Coriander, caraway, paprika, cumin da Cayenne pepper.[3][4] Masu dafa abinci na Tunisiya na iya ƙara dankali, wake mai zurfi, zukatan artichoke ko courgettes zuwa abincin. Ana iya amfani da abincin Arewacin Afirka matbukha a matsayin tushe don shakshouka.
