Mahmud Dantata (an haife shi a shekara ta alif ɗari tara da ashirin da biyu 1922–1983) ɗan kasuwa ne kuma ɗan siyasa ɗan Najeriya wanda ya wakilci Kano ta Gabas a ƙarƙashin tsarin NPC a majalisar wakilai ta Najeriya daga 1965 zuwa 1966.[1] Dantata dai ya kasance mai tausayin jam’iyyar adawa ta NEPU, karkashin jagorancin Aminu Kano amma bayan daure shi, sai ya hada kai da babbar jam’iyyar inda ya kayar da Aminu Kano a matsayin dan majalisar wakilai a shekarar 1964.

An haifi Dantata a unguwar Sarari da ke Kano a shekarar 1922. Yana daya daga cikin shahararren dan Alhassan Dantata, wanda aka fi sani da Mamuda Wapa, hamshakin attajiri, Dantata ya kammala karatunsa na boko a Ghana. Bayan haka, ya shiga kasuwancin mahaifinsa a 1945. A shekarar 1948, ya yi reshensa da kansa, inda ya kafa zuba jari a fannin yawon bude ido, otal, cinikin kudi, injinan sukari da gidajen mai. An gina otal din nasa ne a Wapa dake unguwar Fagge kwaryar Kano. A shekarar 1950 ya fara binciken hanyoyin jigilar alhazai ta hanyar Sudan zuwa Saudiyya. Ya kafa kamfanin jigilar alhazai da aka fi sani da hukumar alhazai ta yammacin Afirka (WAPA), sannan ya samu motocin bas na jigilar alhazai. Bayan shekara guda ya fara aikin jigilar alhazai ta jirgin sama daga Kano. A unguwar Fagge da ke birnin Kano ya kwato wani fili mai fadama ya gina gidan WAPA, inda daga baya unguwar ta shahara wajen cinikin kudi. Dantata da kansa ba da jimawa ba ya sadaukar da wani sashe na sana'arsa don yin ciniki.[2]

A shekarar 1957, an tuhume shi da laifin buga takardun kudi ba bisa ka'ida ba kuma aka daure shi. Bayan an sake shi, ya sauya sheka zuwa jam’iyyar NPC inda ya lashe zaben ‘yan majalisar wakilai na wakiltar Kano ta Gabas. Gidan WAPA ya banbanta ya zama masauki da sinima da kasuwanci inda Sabo Bakin Zuwo wanda daga baya ya zama Gwamnan Jihar Kano a shekarar 1983 ya sarrafa.
