An gina masallacin ne a karkashin Ahmed Sékou Touré tare da tallafi daga Sarki Fahd na Saudi Arabiya. An bude shi a shekarar 1982. Shi ne masallaci na hudu mafi girma a Afirka, kuma mafi girma a Yankin Saharar Afirka. Masallacin yana da wurare 2,500 a matakin sama na mata kuma 10,000 a ƙasa ga maza. Arin masu bautar 12,500 za a iya saukar da su a cikin babban jigon masallacin. Lambunan masallacin suna dauke da kabarin Camayanne, gami da kaburburan jarumin kasar Samori Ture, Sékou Touré da Alfa Yaya.[1]

Masallacin na fama da rashin kulawa da rashin ruwan famfo da wutar lantarki, duk da dimbin gudummawar (GNF) biliyan 20 da masarautar Saudiyya ta bayar a shekarar 2003.[2]

A ranar Juma'a 2 ga Oktoba 2009 aka ajiye gawarwakin mutane 58 da aka kashe a 28 ga Satumba a wani hari da aka kai a gaban masallacin. Babban taron makoki da masu zanga-zanga sun kasance, wanda ya haifar da artabu da 'yan sanda. 'Yan sanda sun mayar da martani da hayaki mai sa hawaye, wanda har ya mamaye cikin masallacin.[3]
