Baba an haife ta ne daga dangin musulmin Hausawa a cikin wani karamin gari na Karo na Afirka.[9] Haihuwarta ta faru ne a karni na 19, kafin Karo ya zama wani bangare na Daular Burtaniya.[10] Karo gari ne mai tsananin son rai inda girbi da noma ke da mahimmanci.[11]
