Mgbakogu ya yi aiki a taƙaice tare da hukumar tattara kuɗaɗen shiga na jihar Anambra daga shekarun 1980 zuwa 1983, ya jagoranci sashen kimiyyar ɗakin gwaje-gwaje na likitanci ASCOHT, 2004-2008, sashin ɗakin gwaje-gwajen likitanci, Babban Asibitin Onitsha daga shekarun 2009 zuwa 2012, Babban Asibitin Enugu-ukwu, 2012-2013 kuma ya zama provost, A ASCOHT, Obosi a shekara ta 2013. A shekarar 2021 a karkashin kulawar Mgbakogu, kwalejin ta tattara ɗalibanta a karon farko don shiga aikin yi wa kasa hidima (NYSC).[13][14]
