A ko da yaushe an ba da taken al-faqīh ("The Jurist"), an haifi Umara ca. 1121. Tarikh dinsa ya ba da garin al-Zara'ib[2] lardin Ibb a arewacin kasar Yemen, a matsayin wurin haihuwarsa. Gundumar kabilanci ta Banu Hakam ta nuna ta ƙungiyarsa, "al-Hakami".[3] Ya fito ne daga kabilar Qahtan ta hanyar al-Hakam ibn Saad al-Ashira[4] a Banu Madh'hij . A cikin shekara 1136-7, ya tafi Zabid, inda ya yi karatun shari'a na tsawon shekaru hudu. A cikin shekara ta 1154-5 yayin da yake aikin hajji zuwa kasar Makka ya zo ga sanarwa na mai mulkin kasar Makka, Qasim ibn Abi Falita, wanda ya aiko shi a matsayin jakarsa ga Isma'ili Fatimid Caliphate. A watan Mayu na shekara ta 1155, Umara ya isa kotun da ke Alkahira na Khalifa mai shekaru shida 6 Al-Fa'iz bi-Nasr Allah . vizier Tala'i ibn Ruzzik[5] shi ne mai mulki mai tasiri, yana kiran kansa al-Mālik aṣ-Ṣāliḥ,(Sarkin kirki) Umara ya karanta Kasida mai ban mai gwanin dadi da ban sha'awa.   2. The 13th century biographer, Ibn Khallikan, whose account, according to Kay, seems to have come from Umara's text, has Mertan (مرطان), in Tihama province, in the valley of Wasaa south of Mecca. This town has not been identified.[1]
