Ita diyar Thabit ibn Abi al-Aflah ce da Al-Shamus bint Abi Amir, su dukansu sun fito ne daga dangin 'Amr ibn Awf na kabilar Aws a kasar Madina.[1][2] Ɗan'uwanta Asim yana daga cikin waɗanda suka yi yaƙi a lokacin yakin Badr.[3][4][5][6][7]

Jamila na ɗaya daga cikin masu tuba na farko a kasar Madina zuwa addinin Musulunci. Mahaifiyarta ya kasance daga cikin mata goma na farko da suka yi alkawarin biyayya ga Muhammadu a cikin 622 AZ.[8] Da jin cewa sunanta Asiya ne ("marasa biyayya"), Muhammad ya sake masa suna: "A'a, kai Jamila ne" ("kyakkyawan"). [9]
