Tsawaita Dokar Ilimi ta Jami'a ta 1959 ta ba da tanadi don kafa jami'o'i masu tsattsauran ra'ayi ga baƙar fata na Afirka ta Kudu. A karkashin tanadin Dokar, an kafa Kwalejin Jami'ar Arewa kimanin kilomita talatin daga garin Polokwane na Lardin Limpopo a ranar 1 ga Agusta 1959. An sanya Kwalejin a ƙarƙashin kulawar ilimi na Jami'ar Afirka ta Kudu.
