An haifi Djanet Lachmet a wani ƙaramin gari a Aljeriya. An tilasta mata yin aure tun tana da shekaru goma sha shida, an sake ta bayan watanni uku da auren. Da take so ta zama ƴar wasan kwaikwayo, ta yi karanci wasan kwaikwayo na tsawon shekaru huɗu a Bordj El Kiffan.[1] Daga 1968 zuwa 1972 ta zauna a Kanada, kuma daga baya ta koma Paris don aiki a matsayin ƴar wasan kwaikwayo.[2]
