Dutsen lardin yana daga cikin tsofaffin dutsen India, daga ilimin kimiyya. An sami mikrolits daga tsofaffin hominids a lardin. Ana ganin cewa al'ummomin wannan yanki sun yi hulɗa da al'ummar Indus Valley. An samu ƙananan ƙasusuwa daga al'ummomin Painted Gray Ware, Black and Red Ware da Northern Black Polished Ware tare da Chosla da Sameliya. Wasu rubuce-rubuce na Brahmi kafin Ashoka sun samo asali daga Bhilot Mata Temple a Badli.

Pushkar ya kasance ƙarƙashin mulkin Kushans, Sakas da sauransu har sai zuwan Chauhans. A 1192, shugaban ƙarshe na Chauhan mai zaman kansa Prithviraj Chauhan an yi nasara akan shi ta Mohammad Ghori, kuma lardin ya zama ɓangare na Delhi Sultanate. A 1287, Hammir Dev Chauhan ya dawo da Ajmer, kafin a sake komawa ƙarƙashin Delhi a 1301. A ƙarshen lokacin Delhi Sultanate, Ajmer yana ƙarƙashin Mallu Khan.
