Northern Elements Progressive Union

Northern Elements Progressive Union ( NEPU ) ita ce jam'iyyar siyasa ta farko a Arewacin Najeriya. An kafa ta a Kano a ranar 8 ga watan Agustan 1950, ita ce tushen wata ƙungiya ta siyasa da ake kira Northern Elements Progressive Association. Ta zama babbar jam’iyyar adawa a Arewacin Najeriya bayan da yankin ya samu mulkin kai a shekarun 1950. A jamhuriya ta farko ta ci gaba da ƙulla ƙawance da ƙungiyar Zikist National Council of Nigeria da Kamaru (NCNC) kan adawa da gwamnatin tarayya da ke ƙarƙashin jam'iyyar NPC .

A ƙarshen shekarun 1940, ɓullowar taron kundin tsarin mulki (The Richards Constitution) ya haifar da rikici a ƙungiyar al’adun gargajiya ta Arewacin Najeriya NPC. Masu ra'ayin mazan jiya da ke da sha'awar kare al'adun Arewa ba su yarda su jagoranci duk wani sauyi na zamantakewar al'adun yankin ba yayin da Sa'adu Zungur ke jagoranta na hagun ya fafata da wani salo na zamani wanda suka kira Democracy Humanism.[1] Wannan kuma ya haifar da rashin jin daɗi a cikin da'irar hagu a Arewa, a ranar 8 ga Agusta 1950, wani taron masu ra'ayin hagu da ke wakiltar Ƙungiyar Spikin da masu goyon bayan Zungeru a wani gini a hanyar Yarbawa, Kano ta ba da sanarwar Sawaba; ayyana wata kafa ta siyasa mai kira ga juyin juya halin gurguzu a Arewacin Najeriya, reshen ɗalibai na jam'iyyar mai suna Zahar Haqu yana da mambobi irin su Abdullahi Aliyu Sumaila.[2] Wannan ya zama ma'auni mai dorewa na NEPU. Wani fassarar turanci da Aminu Kano ya yi na ainihin takardar Hausa da jam’iyyar ta buga a shekarar 1953 ya yi kira ga Ƴan Talakawa ko jama’a da su ƙaddamar da gwagwarmayar faɗa da masu mulki.[3]

Bayan doguwar gwagwarmaya a cikin jam'iyyar tsakanin Abba Maikwaru da Malam Aminu Kano (a lokacin malamin makaranta). Canjin goyon bayan da ƙungiyar Spikin ta yi a taron Lafiya na 1953 ya haifar da nasara ga Aminu Kano tun daga lokacin, Aminu Kano ya mallaki ababen more rayuwa na jam’iyyar har zuwa 1964, a lokacin da masu ra’ayin rikau da suka mara masa baya suka juya masa baya. ya kirkiro wani tsari mai kama da juna mai suna Northern Elements Freedom Organization.
