English: The thorny body of this tree has always been a source of a fascination to me. It was less prominent as a young plant intended to grow into a large umbrella in the middle of hedged space.
The thorns may be a deterrent against harmful insects that might want to spawn on the tree hence, the absence of caterpillars. Only nice, friendly pollinator are noticed on the red flowers suspending from branches like grapevine. Few spiders and very small ants running up and down a trail in between large thorns are also present. Not being defoliators, the canopy is safe and often looking lush. Many times, I've tried to envision this prickly arboreal terrain with the eye of an ant, not a spider.
