MV ABT Summer jirgin ruwan dakon mai ne wanda aka gina a farfajiyar ginin jirgin ruwan Koriya ta Kudu na Ulsan kuma aka ƙaddamar a shekarar 1974. Jirgin ruwan ya kai mita 344, a tsayi kuma kusan mita 54, a faɗinsa. Yayin da take ƙarƙashin tutar Laberiya,[1] cike da man Iran kuma tana kan hanyar zuwa Rotterdam, ta nutse cikin 700 nautical miles (1,300 km; 810 mi) daga gaɓar tekun Angola . Wani fashewa da ba a bayyana ba ya faru a ranar 28, ga watan Mayu, shekarar 1991, kuma jirgin da kayansa sun fara ƙonewa. Biyar daga cikin ma’aikatan jirgin guda talatin da biyu ne suka mutu a lamarin, huɗu daga cikinsu da farko an bayyana ɓacewarsu.[2] Washegari, slick 32 kilometres (20 mi) tsayi da 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) faɗi ya fara samuwa. [1] Jirgin ya ci gaba da ƙonewa na tsawon kwanakai uku kafin ya nutse a ranar 1, ga watan Yuni. An yi hasarar jigilar man da jirgin ya kai wajen ton 260,000, wanda ya bar abin da ake gani a saman tekun mai nisan mil tamanin. Ƙoƙarin gano tarkacen jirgin bayan faruwar lamarin ya ci tura.[3][4]
