NT WAYDouble track is used in the important streets, but single track are used for certain streets and where curves are necessary.Power is taken from a No. 00 copper wire supported on insu-lated hangers, which in turn are insulated from the poles byball insulators. ROLLING STOCK The present rolling stock comprises thirty-five cars. Four-teen are of the box type, with enclosed vestibules at each end.The car body is 18 ft. long, while the complete car is 29 ft.long over all and 7 ft. 6 ins. wide. Fourteen combinationcars have also been provided. These are 29 ft. long over all,have cross-seats in the open part and longitudinal seats in theclosed portion. There are, in addition, six open cars, withten cross-benches capable of seating five passengers each. The cars have monitor deck roofs, fitted with shutters toprovide adequate ventilation. The woodwork is of quarteredoak, with aluminum stenciling. The window sashes are alsomade of quartered oak, and are set in felt to minimize vibration.

A GALA DAY IN DUNEDIN prevails where traffic is light. The rails used throughout arein 40-ft. lengths, weigh 93 lbs. per yard, and have a bearingsurface of 6 ins. on the ties. They are bonded with Edison-Brown plastic bonds. The ties are of Australian hardwood,7 ft. 6 ins. long, 9 ins. wide and 4J/2 ins. thick. They are set2 ft. 6 ins. apart from center to center. Where the soil is poorthe ties rest on a concrete layer about 6 ins. thick, but in goodsoil metal ballast is laid to a depth of 6 ins. The surface ofthe track is made up of a layer of iJ/^-in. metal, covered by2 ins. of tarred screenings rolled and finished off with coarsesand. This has resulted in securing a smooth and almost dust-less surface. The switchings, crossings and special work areof the Lorain Steel Companys manufacture.
