These Ethiopian Christian Orthodox religious objects and antiquities are on display in the Iqa-bet, a two-story stone building next to the Church of Abba Afse in Yeha, Tigray Region, northern Ethiopia. On the top shelf, two Ethiopian crowns flank an two Ethiopian Christian Orthodox metal containers (one of which is quite elaborate) and what I believe could be an ancient necklace of metal beads draped over an ancient clay beaker. A collection of ancient metal figural stamps is arranged along the front of the shelf. I have seen objects such as this described as "bronze identity stamps;" each figure encloses letters in the D'mt language that form a person's name. My photo of a collection of these stamps in the National Museum in Addis Ababa appears below. The bottom shelf displays a collection of old Ethiopian Christian Orthodox hand crosses in front of old manuscripts. |
