ABOUT EGBE OBAYORI OKUNRIN [ASIWAJU] AKILE IJEBU AGE GRADE!

OUR HISTORY... EGBE OBAYORI OKUNRIN [ASIWAJU] AKILE IJEBU was formerly known and addressed as EGBE OBAYORI OKUNRIN AKILE IJEBU (KUYE), was at the initial stage of formation dates back in 2016, before the royal blessing/traditional recognition by The Awujale of Ijebuland, the Egbe was known as "IJEBU REGBEREGBE (Okunrin) 1977--1979".

The Age Group, Egbe Obayori Okunrin [Asiwaju] Akile Ijebu, comprises Ijebu Sons Born In The Years 1977, 1978 & 1979. At the formation, the age group operated underneath for 2 years under the coordination of Mr Ayodeji Kolade Kuku, until Sunday, 30th July 2017, in an epoch-making event, where the egbe elected its first executive committee members known as, Giwa-In-Council.

The historical event, the election of the Giwa-In-Council was part of the prerequisite for the official and traditional recognition by His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, CFR, Ogbagba ll, The Awujale & Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland.

The emergence of Giwa Egbe, Alhaji Surajudeen Adebayo Lasisi and other executive committee members marked the beginning of a new dawn in the age grade and in the Ijebu age group at large.

Before the aforementioned, the egbe set up an electoral committee known and referred to as "THE AFOBAJES" on 9th April 2018. The committee were as follows: (1) Mr Opeyemi Idris -- Chairman (2) Comrade Akeem Temitope Akilo -- Secretary (3) Mr Adekunle Adetola -- Member (4) Mr Saheed Mustapha -- Member (5) Mr Ganiyu Adesegun -- Member (6) Mr Oluseun Osibajo -- Member. The committee was saddled with the responsibility of ushering in the new leadership for the Egbe. The process ushered in the new face of Giwa-In-Council.

However, having put in place the structure for the egbe, another landmarks achievement was the appointment of patrons and patronesses known as, "Baba Egbe, Iya Egbe, Akeweje Okunrin, Akeweje Obirin and the Adviser by the Giwa-In-Council.

WHAT THE EGBE STAND FOR.

★THE GIWA EGBE: The Giwa Egbe is the life President of the group except in case of death, incapacitation, or removal from office as a result of misconduct as stated in the constitution of the group.

★THE OTUN-GIWA EGBE: The Otun-Giwa Egbe is the life Vice President or Second In Command of the group except in case of death, incapacitation, or removal from office as a result of misconduct as stated in the constitution of the group.

★THE ETA-GIWA EGBE: The Eta-Giwa Egbe is the life Vice President ll or Third In Command of the group except in case of death, incapacitation, or removal from office as a result of misconduct as stated in the constitution of the group.

★THE ASOJU-EGBE: The Asoju-Egbe is the representative of Giwa Egbe in the diaspora, United States of America, London, Germany, Canada, Ghana et cetera. He is to see to the welfare of all members of the Egbe in the country of their residence.

THE LOGO, THE SYMBOL... The Egbe's logo is the Egbe's symbol. The colour scheme and all patterns of the logo symbolize what Egbe stand for. The Egbe has continued to observe and evolve its Code of Conduct. The Egbe has continued to grow its memberships globally through innovation and creativity.

The Egbe wanted a logo that will concisely convey everything the Egbe stands for. It had to be fundamentally apparent that it is a traditional group, that is reliable, informed and above all else culturally oriented.

★COLOUR BLUE: The colour Blue is associated with depth and stability. It symbolizes trust, loyalty, wisdom & confidence. Blue was the strongest and most recognisable colour from the colour palette.

★ADE-OBA [Beaded Crown]: The Beaded Crown is the symbol of the royalty of the Awujale and the Paramount Ruler of Ijebu land,

★OPA ASE[Sceptre]: Symbolized royal or imperial power or authority; the sovereignty of the Awujale and the paramount ruler of Ijebu land,

★IRUNKERE [Horse Tail Fly Whisk]: Its stands as a symbol of blessings; and,

★the MOTTO is the SLOGAN, "Aseyori Ni-Ti Wa o" meaning; "Success Is Ours"

★YORI: Each Member of Egbe Obayori is referred to as "Yori", the last four words of Obayori.

2017 OJUDE OBA PARTICIPATION! Before the official recognition and royal blessing of the egbe by the Awujale in 2018, the egbe was allowed to the Awujale's Pavilion as an observer at the 2017 edition of the Ojude Oba festival to observe and watched the event to be acquainted with the traditional norms, value and ethics of the celebration ahead of Egbe's unveiling. As at the 2017 edition of the Ojude Oba festival, the last and the latest Regberegbe age grade in Ijebuland then was "Egbe Bobamaiyegun Akile Ijebu". They are the Ijebu Sons And Daughters Born In The Years 1974, 1975 & 1976.

NOTIFICATION LETTER OF EXISTENCE TO THE AWUJALE OF IJEBULAND To get the assent and certification of Awujale, the Egbe put forward a letter of notification to the palace about the existence of the new age grade and seek for royal recognition of His Royal Majesty.

However, the group, "Egbe Obayori Okunrin Akile Ijebu "Kuye", now "Egbe Obayori Okunrin [Asiwaju] Akile Ijebu" was unveiled with a royal proclamation as "OBAYORI OKUNRIN" according to the official Ijebu age grading gazette at the Awujale's Palace by His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, CFR, Ogbagba ll, The Awujale & Paramount Ruler of Ijebu Land. The Egbe was officially and traditionally recognized by The Awujale of Ijebuland and the Ijebu Regberegbe Council on Sunday, 19th August 2018.

CHANGE OF GIWA AND EGBE'S NAME... Due to the development as regards the Giwaship position of the Egbe in June 2022, a crucial stakeholders meeting was held with Baba Egbe, Hon. Ademorin Aliu Kuye, at his residence in Magodo, Lagos, on Friday, 17th June 2022, hence the resolution was unanimously agreed that Alhaji Surajudeen Lasisi should step down and appoint a new Giwa that will take charge of the leadership and administration of day to day activities of the Egbe.

Consequent upon this, the Egbe in an emergency meeting on Saturday, 18th June 2022, unanimously elected Akogun Wale Raji Anomo as the Giwa Egbe Obayori Okunrin Asiwaju Akile Ijebu with the approval of His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, CFR, Ogbagba ll, The Awujale & Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland. Akogun Wale Raji Anomo is the Executive Chairman Ikosi-Ejinrin Local Council Development Area, Epe, Lagos State.
