English: Flooding from unusually heavy summer rains in Sudan have affected more than 380,000 people, caused at least 90 fatalities and destroyed tens of thousands of homes. In the night of 27 August 2020, the floodwaters spread into the capital city of Khartoum after the level of the Blue Nile reached 17.43 metres, the highest since the country started records in 1912. This image, acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites on 30 August, shows the flooded areas near Khartoum, three days after the event. High resolution open data from Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites allow accurate delineation of flood extent and damage assessment.
