7070 Knight Street at E 55th Avenue - Sunset, Vancouver Architect, Harry Barratt Another one of Vancouver’s modernist mid-century designed firehalls is up for demolition, with bids currently being accepted for demolition of the current structure and a temporary new enclosure (as of October 2016). This is symptomatic of a general lack of consideration for the heritage value of postwar modernist architecture. Designed by architect Harry Barratt (1898-1964), who previously worked in 1927-1929 for the Vancouver architectural firm Townley & Matheson. Firehall No. 5, designed by Townley & Matheson in 1952 at 3090 E 54th, was recently demolished, and appeared on our 2014 Top10 Endangered Sites list |
