Director Somali Women Development Centre, an NGO that implements mechanisms aimed at preventing violence against women and children and mitigating its impact on victims.

Many educated women came back from the diaspora after security returned to Somalia and many others have graduated from Somali Universities in recent years. Their contribution reinforced our struggle and encouraged us to lobby for the 30% quota in our Parliament. We want to go beyond parliament and get the quota from all government institutions. This will inspire Somali women to be a central part of rebuilding Somalia. Our religion allows it, our constitution allows it. So far culture is the biggest stumbling block.
