Olumbe Bassir (1919-2001) masanin kimiyya ne ɗan asalin ƙasar Saliyo, kana marubuci ne kuma malami. Babban gudummawar da ya bayar ga bincike sun kasance a fannonin aflatoxins, abinci mai gina jiki, da bincike na zaman lafiya.

Haifaffen kasar Senegal ne ga iyaye 'yan Saliyo mazauna Oku a shekarar 1919, Abdul Rahman Bassir ya tashi ne a yankin Fourah Bay, a cikin karamar hukumar Freetown tare da iyayensa Abdul da Isatu Bassir ya halarci Makarantar Sakandaren Yariman Wales inda ya ci jarrabawar Babban Cambridge tare da keɓewa daga makarantar London. A shekarar 1946, bayan gajeruwar malanta a babbar makarantar sakandaren gwamnati ta Bo, ya halarci kwalejin Yaba inda ya sami babbar difloma ta kasa. Daga nan ya tafi kasar Burtaniya, inda ya sami digiri na farko na Kimiyya a 1949 da kuma PhD a 1951 daga Jami’ar Liverpool.

Sunansa "Olumbe" yana nufin "akwai Allah" a cikin Yarbanci . Ya auri Constance yayin da yake Ingila da Modesola yayin da yake Najeriya. Yana da yara 10. A shekara ta 2000, ya sami rauni na daskarewar jini a cikin kwakwalwa sakamakon raunin da ya ji a kansa. Duk da samun nasarar tiyata da murmurewa amma ya mutu a Ibadan a ranar 23 ga Mayun shekarar 2001.
